father
opened his magic
doctor bag:
two
tongue depressors fastened by
a rubber
band;
one flick
of his hairy wrist
and lo!
we invented
flight.
Linda Pastan, a former
Poet Laureate of Maryland, will publish her 12th book, Queen of a
Rainy Country, in October. She was the recipient of the 2003 Ruth
Lilly Poetry Prize.
