MAPPING THE CITY: DC Places, Part II

Dehejia Maat

ALL THE SECRETS OF THE UNIVERSE

…and I was just sitting there listening to you talk about having nothing/Eddie Hazel/Georgia Avenue /the O Street Market/homework/Rare Essence and Chuck. The look in your eyes signifying perfection/U know me with the stars on my shoulder/ skating the sky/center of my womb-e-verse/ you my cracking place

Talk of Potomac River lovers/how they/no longer there/ain’t hit it right/no, no/ you always talking shit/ But…I know you right/us free…here when you want/where ever/what ever space you need: place your thangs down; I got room

You say I don’t listen…ridiculous…all up in my head, words, sonnets, jokes, songs, green grass, go-go, broken glasses, you the only one, doin it, doin it, doin it, you put that up there….excuse me if my brain's on overload/I got a lot of stuff up in there …you aint got to worry bout if I know where you coming from/you know where my heart is, how the tightness of my woman places makes songs and melody and creaking one

You can’t stop thinking bout me…I know the power of my magic
